Tonight will be the 74th Bob Watterson Memorial Polo Game, play at Darlington, PA. Bob was one of the clubs founders of the club in 1937, and it is consider one of the oldest clubs in the US. I love this match because it really is picturesque “Friday night games are played at the Darlington field, under the lights.” It is also the only club (in the world! I think…) that plays at night under lights, and on a dirt surface outdoors, with 1000s of tailgate fans scream for there team. It’s a unique history, and a fun place to play, with the dirt pitch the ball gets a lot of spin and the short field gives the game extra danger.
The winners of Friday nights matches advance to a Sunday afternoon game played at the East Palestine grass field, maintained by Mark Powers. Pics from last years Bob Watterson Memorial Tournament, will post this years next week. …these pics are available at the AK Photo Store “Polo” album.
If your in the Pittsburgh or Cleveland area come out and watch, games start at 7pm and admission is $5 per car load.
